Swiss Economic Archives
Since 1910, the Swiss Economic Archives (SWA) have documented Swiss economic history and preserved the archives of the private economic sector. The document collections contain information on numerous topics relating to the economic life and policy in Switzerland, as well as on corporate bodies and personalities. The manuscript and private archive department comprises around 500 collections on companies and trade associations as well as personal papers, ranging from the 18th to the 21st century. The main focus is on the economy of Basel. The textile industry and the trading sector are well represented, as are banking, transportation, architecture and other economic branches. Minutes of board meetings, account books, correspondence and pattern books reflect the broad spectrum of entrepreneurial activity. The SWA presents a selection of manuscripts and archival material on e-manuscripta.ch, which are interesting not only for research on business and economic history, but also for studies on culture and social history.
