Johann Jakob Wick (1522-1588) was canon at the Protestant Grossmünster church in Zürich. From 1560 onwards, he systematically collected news items, both from Switzerland and from Europe more generally, on topics such as the events of war, notorious murder cases, birth deformities and freak weather phenomena. The 24 volumes of the „Wickiana“ contain handwritten reports, drawings and pasted-in leaflets. 429 single-leaf prints and illustrated broadsheets were removed from the volumes and archived separately. This exceptional compilation of material has now been reassembled via its presentation as a single virtual collection.
